We have come to the conclusion that roadside wild-flowers are completely misunderstood. Although a little over-grown, free-spirited and less than perfect, these beauties are in so many ways the most beautiful, organic addition to any kitchen windowsill, or bridal bouquet. Their unruly stems, lovingly hand-tied into a rustic, bohemian inspired bunch, provides the ultimate statement. Raw, natural, and real. There’s just something about it don’t you think?
This ‘wild’ floral styling can be seen in a few of our own editorial’s, including the ever lovely ‘Dear Indie’.
We absolutely LOVE the flowers used for this shoot, beautifully put together by the very talented Karen Gray from Perfect Style. The wild bouquet and head piece, partnered up with the feminine lace dress and veil are the stand out features in these images.
The ultimate goal for such a wild style is an extreme lack of symmetry to get a beautiful, organic, outcome. Irregularity, texture and using romantic colours that complement each other are all strong values behind Karen’s work. However, these things are very unique aspects to each wedding or shoot, so it needs to be well planned in order to provoke the right feelings.
Flower and foliage choices give the arrangement texture. Karen uses in season, local and beautifully fresh flowers. The Dear Indie bouquet break down goes like this:
- Local Proteas
- Cymbidium orchids
- Stunning deep dark roses
- Several varieties of Leptospermum (tea tree)
Rich, dark subtle tones are very in this season. The arrangement should be humble and organic but WOW at the same time. Deep greens in the foliage, accompanied by a stand out complimentary to the theme colour. For the Dear Indie shoot, the depth in floral colours was matched flawlessly with the deep, natural theme colours. This is where the professional styling really shines.
For tying, we absolutely adore the beautiful hand dyed silk ribbons from one of our favourites Feathers and Stone. They are so gorgeous, luxurious and unique. You will notice the subtle pink ribbon hanging from the Dear Indie bouquet, again tying in those deep reds with a sly bit of pink.. Genius!
